S3 News

Term 2 Week 10

What a fantastic semester we’ve had in Room S3! One pleasing aspect about term 3 has been seeing the progress in athletics when working with Coach Tim.  The day itself was fabulous, full of cheering and participation—thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to support and celebrate with us!

We finished our English unit with positive engagement as students enjoyed writing persuasive texts trying to convince me which food would be good for a class beak up party.  One student even included music and wanted “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice!

It’s been wonderful to wrap up the term with a fun and well-deserved archery session for Reward Day—our students have truly earned it by being safe, respectful, and enthusiastic learners throughout the semester.  The day was a real hit (pardon the pun)!

We also had the fabulous Questacon Science Circus visit to wrap up the term.  Everyone was buzzing with excitement with hands-on activities like the double bubble, gooey gloop, and flying (noisy) objects, tying in with our science unit.

Prior to our Science Assessment, we created and played with bouncy balls. There were lots of gooey textures to touch and hold. Baxter really enjoyed the consistency of his cornflour and water Oobleck. This mixture is neither a solid nor a liquid and lots of fun to touch. The students were engaged in the Marble Roller Coaster investigation. Using sliced pool noodles, students had to build a roller coaster that included humps, loops or both. This investigation was very technical, and the roller coaster needed precise taping as any sideways tilt would send the marble off course and off the track. All students succeeded and were very proud of their designs.

‘Science is fun. Science is curiosity. We all have natural curiosity. Science is a process of investigating. It’s posing questions and coming up with a method. It’s delving in.’   Sally Ridefo

Thanks for reading, and hope you all have a safe and happy holiday. From Baxter, Leni, Maddee, Maddie, Arley, Sabana, Gaelle and Andy.
