Principal and Deputy Principal News
A warm welcome to all of our new families! We have had 4 new students start over the last few weeks and all of these students have settled in well and have been busy learning new routines, making friends and establishing themselves into our school community.
We have another 3 new enrolments starting early next term and several other inquiries about enrolment for later in the year and 2021. This increase in student numbers is a reflection on the dedication and hard work of all of our teaching staff - both teachers and teacher aides, and the positive messages families are sharing within our community.
Staffing
Due to this growth, there will be some staffing changes. We will advise families as quickly as we can if their student will be affected. Whilst we try to minimise change as much as possible, any changes are made with our students at the forefront of our minds to ensure continuity of learning and as much stability as possible.
Primary 3 will be one of the classes experiencing a staffing change for next Semester. We send a huge thank you to Miss Jan who has done a fantastic job teaching our Primary 3 class this term. Mr Dale Tucker will replace Miss Jan for Semester 2. We extend a very warm welcome to Mr Dale and hope that he enjoys his time at our wonderful school.
P&C
Our partnership with our families is a vital one. My thanks go to those families who were able to attend our P&C meeting this week. Feedback from some families has been that a later meeting would enable them to attend. With this in mind, we are holding our next P&C meeting in the Admin Building on Tuesday 21 July at 6pm. Meetings will run for approximately 1 hour. It would be lovely to see some new faces attend to support our students. We can organise child minding if needed so you can attend – just let our office know.
Congratulations to our new Executive Committee for 2020-2021 who were nominated and accepted positions at our AGM held on Wednesday 24 June.
President: Juanita Sempowicz
Vice president: (not filled)
Treasurer: Krystal Mitchell
Secretary: Cann Taylor
If anyone is interested in the P&C Vice President position, please let us know.
Report Cards
Students have been busy completing assessments over the past few weeks. Report Cards will be completed over the first 2 weeks of Term 3 and sent home at the end of Week 3.
Arrivals
Thank you to all of our families who are working hard to have their students at school and ready for learning by 8:30am. Our arrivals gate opens at 8:15am and students are welcomed into to the school and can sit and communicate with their friends and teachers until they move off to classrooms at 8:30am.
Please note that the gate is closed at 8:45am so that the staff on arrivals duty can move off to their classrooms. If it happens that you are running late and the gate is closed, please bring your students into school via the top gate outside of administration to ensure that they are signed in.
2020 has been an unusual and challenging year for us all.
we are so proud of the way Gympie Special School staff, students, and families have worked to ensure the best possible outcomes for our students during the unprecedented event of Covid-19, and the different ways of working and living this demanded for us all. A huge shout out to our Gympie Special School staff and families this term. You have been flexible and responsive to our student’s needs in a very different learning environment.
Have a happy, safe and enjoyable holiday and we look forward to catching up with you all in Term 3 when school resumes on Monday the 13th of July.
Best wishes,
Sarah and Rachael
