Junior Secondary 1
Wow, what a busy few weeks we’ve had. We welcome a new student to our class and look forward to getting to know them. During Science Week, we had a visit from Vibes Wellbeing Centre to help our students to engage in a range of science experiences. Students tested soil to see what it contained, we found the ph levels interesting. We also made slime from three simple ingredients in the colour of the students’ choice. Another station showcased augmented reality where we could hover a tablet over a 2D picture that became a 3D object, my favourite! The outstanding highlight for JS1 students was the virtual reality goggles that allowed students to view sharks from a cage underwater or reach out to giant elephants and other African animals, even though we were in the school gym.
We celebrated Book Week with many discussions around our favourite titles. On Friday of Book Week, we came dressed as our favourite characters and visited the library that showcased, ‘Old worlds, new worlds and other worlds.’ We decorated our door with an Aboriginal theme for old worlds and the students for new worlds. The students came up with a range of ideas for other worlds including drones and Minecraft.
We continue to learn our core words and where they are located to communicate in several ways. I am hoping we can all remember them to help our ability to communicate.
With Ms Libby’s help, we often have an adapted game of basketball in the quad during first break where students bounce the ball through the goals instead of shooting hoops. The students that participate are improving their skill to bounce the ball when moving and are becoming more accurate when passing the ball. I think I may be getting better too.
This term seems to have flown and very soon we will on holidays.
Keep safe,
JS1 students, Darren, Dana, and Deb.
