Who can believe that we are at the beginning of Week 3, in our final term for 2021? This term we welcome a work experience student, Zara, who is helping in our room each Monday. She has a very supportive manner and we look forward to her visits.
All students are working hard to complete their learning tasks and it’s wonderful to see how they enthusiastically start their morning routine, often without any prompting. Students sign in and create an ‘I feel’ statement, make a judgement about the day’s weather and complete 5-10 minutes of handwriting. As a whole class we read our Morning Message and discuss the missing punctuation. Following this we read a nonsense rhyme, looking at the rhyming pattern and sometimes chant it together! From Monday to Wednesday we finish this session by completing our onset/rime and phonics. We then move to the reading area where we read our Book of the Week and make our predictable chart sentences. These are cut up by the students and sequenced during the week, to be typed and illustrated to make our class book. We always enjoy reading these texts to our EY2 friends on Tuesday afternoons. The rest of our English session is spent in our groups doing reading comprehension and word knowledge learning and then, independent writing. We are proud of the learning gains made in our English and continue to strive to achieve our learning goals.
Hoping you all have a great term,
Libby, Michelle, Chris, and Kate.
