S3 & S4 News

We have literally hit the ground running, during the first few weeks back at school this semester.

Our literacy program explores informative and imaginative texts about famous people and places. We have started off looking at Australian famous places, such as, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, The Great Barrier Reef and the Outback. Imaginative texts that describe these areas were read and compared with the language and text structures and features of the informative texts. These included: Wanita’s Walkabout, The Great Barrier Thief and Tom the Outback Mailman. Our current book is Meet Nellie Melba, where some of us are looking at timelines in her life and the topic specific vocabulary, nouns, verbs and adjectives found in the text. A few of us have stated that we aren’t that interested in opera music!

In maths, we have been working with positional maps and location, learning the language to describe where objects are in the room in relation to us and looking at simple maps and following given pathways. We have also been practising our counting and using concrete materials to learn about place value, then representing these on the number line.

Last Friday, we all enthusiastically took part in and celebrated Plant a Tree Day.

Yours sincerely till next time,

Libby, Tegan, Kelly, Jas, Darren, Tommy, Braydan, Tahlia, Zane, Henry, Ray, Peter, Angelina, Savannah, Marcus, Gorgia and Jed.
