Communication News
The Communication team had their final meeting for this semester last week. We were interested to share the data from the Communication Accessible Schools survey which was completed by all school staff recently. The results were pleasing, showing that all staff recognised the importance of communication system and therefore a voice. We also recognised some areas that we could improve in, so we have developed goals to work on to improve these areas.
At present the Communication Matrix is the evaluation tool used to establish a student’s communication strengths and weaknesses. This is a most effective and efficient method for assessing an emergent communicator, to help plan their learning goals. However, to date, current tools for assessing transitional or independent/competent communicators have been found to be lengthy and cumbersome to administer. Therefore, we acknowledge with thanks, the great effort of our Communication Leader, Cassie, who has devised a G.S.S. version of the ROCC Communication Profile. Using ROCC Domains and scoring descriptors, she has developed a refined, yet easily understood document which has been successfully trialled and will be implemented in Semester 2. Thanks again, Cassie!
Something for us to remember- Don’t let us sit in silence.
