S3 News

The newer students in our class have settled in nicely and are now familiar with our daily routines. We have been revising our Zones of Regulation and each morning complete a sentence about how we are feeling using our ‘Zones’ ALS boards. We have started our HPE unit which explores the advantages of physical activity and introduces the concept of 'consent', focusing on assertive communication strategies, including refusing. Additionally, it includes a review of staying safe online and offline as well as anatomical body parts to reinforce body awareness and respect. The unit includes short YouTube clips, social stories, flash cards and labelled diagrams all used to reinforce these important concepts. We will be observing how our students demonstrate skills and describe strategies required to develop respectful relationships. Accordingly, students apply protective behaviours and help-seeking strategies to keep themselves and others safe. In a range of movement contexts, students are being encouraged to develop and apply rules while collaborating with their peers.

In maths, we have been focusing on each student’s number goals, especially addition and subtraction strategies using 100’s charts, number lines and concrete materials. We have made our own analogue clocks and regularly challenge each other about who can be fastest to make o’clock or half past times. In English we have been reading informative texts and looking at text structure and features, including headings, timelines and images and how these inform the reader and improve access to the information in texts. Students have been creating their own informative texts and have made labelled drawings to illustrate their work. Some of us are becoming very good at the Beat the Tiger spelling game, too!

We look forward to the next few weeks of consolidating our learning.

Warm regards

Libby, Jas, Laila, Mia, Cody, Riley, Thomas, Tyler, Rosie.
